Thieves Essential Oil Blend

Week 4: Thieves is your Wonder Woman

Your fierce fighter to the rescue

Anyone else have a huge crush on Gal Gadot after watching the most recent remake of Wonder Woman? She’s awesome, badass, and pretty much cleans up any mess. Which is why I think Thieves essential oil blend is basically your very own Wonder Woman there to clean up any mess, fight against sickness, and be the secret ingredient you’ve been needing all your life.

Thieves first walked into my life when my future mother-in-law left a bottle of Thieves cleaner after a visit in June. I’m not kidding when I say I was instantly hooked. I was spraying that stuff on every dirty inch of our kitchen and watched the grime get swept away. Thieves was my gateway oil blend and has remained at the top of my go-to list ever since. The cool thing about this week is I got to try uses for Thieves I hadn’t thought about, like diffusing or using it to promote overall wellness and health.

Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils make up the unique blend that is popularly named by Young Living as Thieves. A lot of people (including myself), wonder how the oil blend got it’s unique, and somewhat obscure name. Turns out, there’s actually a story behind the name and blend.

In France, back in the 15th century and at the height of the bubonic plague, there was a band of grave robbers who would steal from those who had succumbed to the disease. To ward off the smell, they used a blend of these oils and placed it under their nose. Miraculously, these grave robbers didn’t get sick. That’s because these oils had the positive effect of warding off the disease, along with the smell.

Now, whether or not these grave robbers deserved to get the plague is a whole other issue, but bottom line is these oils worked. Thus, the name Thieves was aptly applied to the unique blend of oils that is a powerhouse against warding off sickness and smell.

My week was full of using Thieves in my everyday, but there are a TON of ways you can use Thieves essential oil and the Thieves line of products by Young Living. I just explored the Vitality oil and Thieves cleaner sample you receive in your premium starter kit with a diffuser. You could also opt to start in essential oils with a large sampling of the entire Thieves line of products with a Thieves premium starter kit. The cool thing about that is you can ease your way into discovering essential oils with a product that (in my opinion) works well, and that you can implement right away without having to do much research.

day 1: Monday
Use: Thieves essential oil vegetable capsule

Thieves Essential Oil Pills If you’ve been following along, then you know I’m all about starting slow and steady with each new week. With any essential oil, it’s best to ease your way into it (aka don’t drown yourself in Lavender on day 1 – even though it’s tempting). This week was no different.

On Monday morning, I filled vegetable capsules with 3 drops each of Thieves oil. I did this because I knew we would be at a festival with THOUSANDS of people this weekend, so my immune system needed to be in working order. I’ve never thought to make my own pills before this, but it’s super-simple. I even made my fiance take a few pills with me this week to keep us both healthy!

The only downside to taking oil pills is they do tend to have an aftertaste. If you don’t like the smell or taste of Thieves, I do recommend putting a drop of peppermint oil in your capsule as well to help with any indigestion or unexpected taste later on.

day 2: tuesday
use: Thieves cleaner

Thieves Essential Oil CleanerHonestly, this could have been any day of the week, because I do regularly use this product in our home, but I decided to feature it for Tuesday. When you get the premium starter kit with Young Living, included is a sample of Thieves cleaner. All you need to do to use it is purchase a dark-colored glass bottle (like the one below – this is an affiliate link, if you purchase my recommendation I get credit – thanks!) and mix the sample with distilled water (ratio of 1:30, oil to water for general cleaning). If you have hard water in your home use a water bottle to fill it up.

I had some leftover t-shirt paint that worked perfectly for filling out the label to make this the cutest cleaner in our household. I’ve come to love the cinnamon smell in my daily kitchen cleaning, and it’s oh-so-satisfying to see the grease on our stove get wiped away. Another perk is that this is a blend that is plant-based, so you don’t have to worry if your food touches the counter. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for bleach or Clorox wipes.

If you like the cleaner, I recommend getting the larger 14.4 or 64 oz. bottle. Since using the product everyday since June, my bottle with a capful of Thieves JUST ran out. It took almost 2 months to use that tiny capful and I still have a majority of my 14.4 oz left. It’s going to last a LONG time. I used to go through Clorox wipes in our kitchen like it was my job, needing to replenish every few weeks. Plus, they would dry up and not be as effective after the first couple of uses. I can honestly say switching to Thieves has been better for the environment, and kinder to my wallet!

day 3: wednesday
use: thieves applied to feet

I know what you’re thinking…I applied Thieves to my feet because they smell. Well, maybe that would help, but I actually was hoping to gain those immunity benefits quicker by rubbing the oils into my soles instead of taking a pill. (But I’m not upset that a bonus is nice-smelling feet!).

I applied the oils right before I went to bed, unfortunately no foot rub for Becca on this night.

So why would I do this? Several reasons, but I’ll give you the top three benefits of using essential oils on your feet I think is helpful:

  1. The skin on your feet is less sensitive. If you find essential oils irritate your skin, try applying to your feet. The skin is made to be tougher.
  2. Your feet don’t have oil-producing glands. This makes it easier for oils to be absorbed into your body.
  3. Aromatherapy. Even though it’s on the bottom of your body, when laying in bed, you still get the aroma of the oils surrounding you to absorb benefits from.

day 4: thursday
use: thieves oil in the dishwasher

I got this tip straight from the Young Living website, so I figured…what the heck. I usually do our dishes every morning while I’m still motivated and getting ready for the day. On this day, I put in my detergent like normal, but then dropped three drops of Thieves essential oil into the bottom pan of the dishwasher.

The cool thing was even though I also had detergent in there, the dishwasher finished smelling like Thieves. So in other words, I loved it. I didn’t notice anything different with the dishes themselves, but this trick is more for cleaning out the appliance.

One thing I do want to try in the future is the Thieves brand of dishwasher detergent. I’m addicted to the smell, so I look forward to having the same experience in the future.

day 5: friday
Use: thieves tea

Dogs at workOh Friday, how I love thee. Today was puppy day in the office! And instead of show you a boring picture of my tea cup, here’s some adorable dogs.

This morning was simple. Typically, I have warm lemon water in the morning, so today I added a drop of Thieves essential oil blend to make my own “tea”. I love the way Theives smells, so I also really like the taste – it’s cinnamon, clove goodness. This drink will be even better in the Fall…which is just around the corner!

day 6: saturday
use: diy thieves hand sanitizer

Beer Fest ThievesToday was an event we literally wait all year for…The Great Taste of the Midwest. It’s one of the largest beer fests in the United States, sells out every year, and you have to wait overnight at a beer retailer to even have a shot at getting a ticket.

Thankfully, we have a group of friends that also enjoys a good brew, and organizes the annual overnight ticket run and day of festivities. Last year, we partook in Friday evening festivities that involve special releases and previews to the beer fest, but we opted to just take part in the day of event this year.

Thieves Hand SanitizerPrior to going, I whipped up a quick batch of Thieve’s hand sanitizer. It was super easy and simply involves 10 drops of each: Thieves and lemon essential oils, mixed with distilled water in a glass spray bottle. I will point out that Young Living does make an actual hand sanitizer with Thieves, but this was my quick fix as I approached a day of hanging out with over 6,000 beer drinkers and 190 breweries.

My only regret this day was walking to the event. It was almost 90 degrees at 10:30 a.m. and by the time we arrived to the event at quarter past noon, we were all sweating buckets…so warm. However, I will say the heat made that first cold beer sample go down real nice 🙂 . As I waited in crazy long lines and was packed in with several hot, sweaty beer drinkers, I could have not been more thankful to have Thieves to the rescue!

day 7: sunday
use: thieves & purification oils in diffuser

After recovering from our exciting beer fest activities, Sunday was a day full of R&R, along with some cleaning around the house. In my first essential rewards box from Young Living, I made sure to get their Purification blend. I follow a lot of oily influencers now, and noticed they all talked about this oil for help with purifying the air, and it’s a powerful force when combined with Thieves.

I decided to give it a go because our 9-year-old’s bedroom was smelling a bit stale (despite ACTUALLY being clean). So I put three drops each of Purification and Thieves essential oil blends into the diffuser and let it run for the next few hours.

The aroma was pretty strong at first, so it was hard to tell if it actually made a difference. However, I am happy to report that two days later it definitely smells less stale and even slightly pleasant.

thieves stole my heart
